Redeem your Passport Shell
Open the live redemption experience and show it to the kavatender. Staff may scan the live code or complete another supported in-app validation flow.

Each bar defines its own offering so it can choose something that fits its menu, service model, and community. The HappyKava app shows the bar's current Passport offering before you redeem.

Is the HappyKava Passport really free?
Yes. HappyKava Passport is free for HappyKava app users. Download the app, create or sign in to your account, and open Passport. No billing setup or credit card is required.
Do I need a HappyKava account?
Yes. Passport redemptions and completed locations are tied to your personal HappyKava account. Signing in helps protect the program, record your progress, and prevent duplicate redemptions.
What do I receive with Passport?
You can redeem one included Passport Shell at each participating kava bar, one time per location during the active Passport cycle. Each bar defines what its Passport Shell includes.
Is a Passport Shell always kava?
Not necessarily. A participating bar may include a standard kava shell, tea, K-Tea, a drink kit, or a choice between specific eligible options. The app shows the current offering before you redeem.
Is Passport valid at every kava bar?
No. Passport is accepted only at locations currently marked as participating in the HappyKava app. A bar appearing in the general directory does not automatically mean it participates in Passport.
Can I redeem more than once at the same bar?
No. Passport is designed around exploration, so each participating location can be completed once during the applicable Passport cycle. After redemption, that location is marked as completed in your Passport history.
Does free Passport mean unlimited free drinks?
No. Passport access itself is free, but the standard rule remains one Passport Shell per participating location. Additional drinks, upgrades, food, merchandise, and add-ons cost extra unless the bar explicitly includes them.
Do I have to purchase anything else at the bar?
The Passport Shell stands on its own unless the bar's clearly displayed terms state otherwise. Optional upgrades and add-ons may cost extra, and many guests choose to order another round, tip, or bring friends to support the bar.
How do I redeem a Passport Shell?
Open the participating bar in HappyKava, begin the Passport redemption flow, complete any required check-in or location confirmation, and show the live redemption screen to staff. The kavatender completes the supported validation process, and the bar is added to your completed Passport locations.
Why does HappyKava need my location?
Passport is an in-person discovery program. The app may use location and check-in information to confirm that you are at the participating bar when beginning a redemption. Location is not a substitute for staff validation.
Can I use a screenshot of the redemption screen?
No. Passport requires the live HappyKava redemption experience. Screenshots, photos, or screen recordings cannot be used as valid redemptions.
Can I give my Passport redemption to someone else?
No. Passport is connected to your HappyKava account and is not transferable. Each person should use their own HappyKava account and Passport.
Can I use Passport while traveling?
Yes. You can redeem at any currently participating bar shown in HappyKava, subject to that bar's current Passport availability and rules. Passport is useful in new cities, during road trips, and while visiting another region.
Can I use Passport to plan a kava crawl?
Yes. Choose multiple participating bars and use TravelRoot to organize them into a local hop, planned crawl, or longer road-trip route. Each person in the group completes redemptions through their own account.
Can a bar change what its Passport Shell includes?
Yes. Participating bars control their own Passport Shell definition and may update it over time. Always review the current offering in HappyKava rather than relying on an old screenshot or social post.
Why can a participating bar be unavailable for redemption?
A participating bar may temporarily pause Passport, use allowed redemption hours, schedule a blackout window, or update its availability for an event or operational reason. Check the bar's Passport details before making a special trip.
What happens if the bar is holding a major event?
The bar may keep Passport available, restrict it to certain hours, schedule a blackout, or pause redemption temporarily. Check the live Passport offering and availability in the app before you go.
Is Passport beginner-friendly?
Yes. Passport is designed to make trying a new kava bar less intimidating. You can review available bar information, see what the Passport Shell includes, and arrive with a clear first interaction.
Can I use Passport at my regular bar?
Yes, provided your regular bar currently participates and you have not already completed that location during the applicable Passport cycle. Passport encourages exploration, but your existing favorite can still be one of your stops.
What happens when a new bar joins Passport?
New participating bars can appear in the live HappyKava network as they are added. Open the app to see the latest participating locations and identify newly available stops.
What happens if I switch phones?
Install HappyKava on the new device and sign in to the same account. Your account-linked Passport information and recorded progress should remain associated with you.
What should I do if the app will not load at the bar?
A live digital screen is required for redemption. Try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular service, close and reopen HappyKava, and return to the Passport screen. Do not complete or assume a redemption based on a screenshot.
I previously paid for Passport. What happens now?
Passport access is now free, and new billing is no longer required. Your previous Passport and redemption history remain connected to your account. If you believe a Passport renewal is still scheduled, review your billing notice or contact HappyKava support so the account can be checked.
Are age or house rules still applicable?
Yes. Passport does not override a bar's age requirements, identification policies, service rules, local regulations, or right to refuse service. Every visit remains subject to the participating bar's normal house policies.
